The ABCs of CBD

Considering CBD for the first time?

If you’ve done any research on CBD, you know there’s a lot of confusing terminology out there. Here’s a short course with some basic information about CBD and its benefits.

Anatomy

Let’s start with a quick look at our human anatomy. Our bodies are composed of 12 systems that help us function. For example, the skeletal system is your body’s framework, the muscular system controls movement, the respiratory system feeds your body’s oxygen supply, and so on.

A lesser-known system is the endocannabinoid system (ECS). You’ve never heard of it? Not surprising. The ECS was not identified until the late 1980s, but it’s proving itself to be a complex and hard-working system that impacts much of our overall health.

What does this have to do with CBD? Stay with me.

The Body Produces Endocannabinoids

The ECS helps your body stay in balance by producing molecules called endocannabinoids. Ongoing research is now shedding light on their role in regulating our body’s functions — and how they affect stress, sleep, inflammation, appetite, and disease response.

Endocannabinoids are found throughout the body in our organs, tissue, muscles, immune system, and well, everywhere.

A Quality Connection

CBD stands for cannabidiol, a compound extracted from cannabis, and it teams up with our body’s naturally occurring endocannabinoids to support our overall wellness. In other words, CBD is an organic alternative that helps improve quality of life.

Unlike another cannabinoid, THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), CBD is non-intoxicating — which means that it does not produce the feeling of being “high.”  Instead, CBD is a natural way to support your body’s molecular health.

While there are many more in-depth explanations of CBD, we hope this brief introduction helps you understand the role of CBD in helping individuals (and pets, too) achieve wellness organically.

With the multiple benefits of CBD, many consumers report positive lifestyle changes such as better sleep, improved focus, reduced inflammation, and a better ability to manage stress. Read more about the benefits of CBD products in the words of our Drops of Life customers.
